HOUSE TOUR: KITCHEN & DINING

The kitchen cabinets were definitely a big reason why we looked at this townhouse. I saw them online in photos and loved how white and clean they made the space feel. In person, they didn’t disappoint. On the other hand, from the moment I saw the kitchen I knew that it would be great… if we could find a pantry solution. The kitchen isn’t huge and, in fact, was a downsize from our mountain rental house, but the quality was better and I have an idea… but I’ll get to that later.

The counters are all granite and the cabinets and drawers are soft-close. The rest of the counters and cabinets in the house match the kitchen. Why mess with a good thing, right?

Unfortunately, the house didn’t come with a refrigerator, but it did include a big, beautiful sink, and a working dishwasher. I’m all set!

The dining area is right off the kitchen opening towards the back of the house (check out the floorplan in this post if you’re turned around). There’s really nothing life changing about this dining space. It’s big enough to house our already owned dining table, the window is great (again, we need to talk window treatments), and it’s tiled to match the entryway, powder room, library, and kitchen.

Now, I introduce to you, my plan… Since the kitchen doesn’t have enough storage, and even more specifically, since I’ve been using cupboards as small pantries for years, I crave a large piece of cabinetry to use as a pantry at the very least. And, as luck would have it, that’s about all that would fit in this space. I’d like to extend the cabinetry along the back wall of the dining area, which would provide more storage as well as counter space. The counter real estate isn’t bad, but why turn down more?

I’m thinking a large pantry on the left, with two or three base cabinets to the right of that, continuing to the right wall. Bonus, the light fixture is already off-center, like maybe this was the plan all along…?

So, there’s some work to do here, but like I’ve said before, these are wants not needs. Which also means there’s not a critical timeline.

What do you think about the plan? Can you envision it with me?

Love, Shauna
